Excellence Scholarship Programme from the Government of Mexico for International Students 2023

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Mexico, through the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), is pleased to invite foreign students from around the world to apply for the Excellence Scholarship Programme offered by the Government of Mexico for the year 2023. This prestigious scholarship program aims to provide international students with the opportunity to pursue higher education in Mexico, including specialization, master’s, and doctoral degrees, as well as research programs and academic mobility.

Call for Excellence Scholarships

The “Call for Excellence Scholarships of the Government of Mexico for Foreigners 2023” is open to applicants from more than 180 countries. This opportunity is made possible through bilateral agreements, multilateral mechanisms, and special agreements between Mexico and other nations. Over 80 Mexican Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) participate in this call, all of which offer academic programs registered in the National Postgraduate System of the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT). These programs demonstrate Mexico’s advancements in various fields of science and humanities.

Participating Countries and Institutions

The Excellence Scholarship Programme is open to students from a wide range of countries across the globe. The participating countries are determined based on bilateral agreements and special arrangements between Mexico and these nations. Through these partnerships, Mexico aims to foster cooperation and strengthen its global presence in the field of education. Benefits of the Scholarship Program

The Excellence Scholarship Programme offers a comprehensive set of benefits to support the academic journey of international students studying in Mexico. These benefits include:

Scholarship Modalities

The scholarship program covers various modalities, each with a specific duration:

• Undergraduate Mobility Program: Maximum duration of 24 months
• Master’s Mobility Program: Maximum duration of 12 months
• Master’s Program: Maximum duration of 24 months
• Doctoral Program: Maximum duration of 36 months
• Postgraduate Research Stays (Master’s, Doctoral, and Postdoctoral): Maximum duration of 12 months

Stipend and Financial Support

Selected applicants receive a monthly stipend based on the level of study:

• Master’s scholarships, mobility, and research at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels: 4 times the monthly value of the Federal Economic Measurement Unit (UMA), currently equivalent to $12,614.80 MXN per month.
• Doctoral scholarships and research stays at the doctoral and postdoctoral levels: 5 times the monthly value of the UMA, currently equivalent to $15,768.50 MXN per month.

Enrollment, Tuition, and Medical Insurance

The scholarship covers enrollment and tuition fees, as determined by the program of each Mexican Educational Institution. Additionally, selected students receive medical insurance through the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). The coverage begins after six months of the scholarship and lasts for a period similar to the duration of the scholarship.

Travel and Transportation Support

The scholarship program includes international air flight transportation upon the satisfactory completion of the academic program. The flight route is determined by AMEXCID. In addition, transportation from Mexico City to the host city of the receiving academic institution is provided for studies conducted outside Mexico City. Upon completion of the scholarship period, transportation back to Mexico City is also covered.

Selection Criteria

The selection process for the Excellence Scholarships is conducted without any discrimination based on factors such as ethnic origin, gender, age, disabilities, social status, or religious beliefs. The following criteria are considered during the selection process:

1. Submission of all required documents.
2. Academic excellence of the applicant.
3. Preference is given to applicants who have not previously received an AMEXCID scholarship.
